The survey was conducted by PORU (fielded on 24-26 May, 2016) and it was presented in the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

According to the survey’s findings 74% of the Greeks believe that their household financial situation will get worse and worse in the upcoming period while more than 8 out of 10 think that we are moving towards the wrong direction. It is reasonable to assume that such high rates of economic pessimism are related to measures recently adopted by the government in the Parliament since they directly affect citizens’ daily lives (VAT increase, decrease of the level of the untaxed incomes, etc).

This pessimism is reflected even in the public opinion’s assessment of the last Eurogroup’s importance. More specifically, 4 out of 10 citizens have a negative view for the decisions taken, while only 7.5% of the respondents believe that such decisions are for the benefit of the country.
